Throughout the school year Riverview hosts four special event weekends for families. Specific schedules are posted here as well as mailed prior to each event. For your convenience in making travel plans, a general outline is shown below.
Opening Weekend September 10 & 11
On the first Saturday after Labor Day, veteran students eagerly greet old friends and welcome newly arriving students while parents delight in meeting other Riverview families.
- Families traveling a long distance often arrive on Cape Cod on Friday.
- Saturday is Registration and Move-In Day from 9:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. with all families invited to a Cranberry and Chowder Social at 4:30.
- Saturday evening: dinner on your own – students generally stay off-campus with their families.
- Sunday features a brunch for new families, ending around 1 p.m.
- There are no other activities planned for Sunday.
Fall Family Weekend October 21 & 22
Families meet the roommates and friends their child has made and make friends themselves with other parents. This is the time for conferences with teachers and advisors, to watch sports and visit classrooms. The week end activities culminate in a Halloween dance on Saturday evening.
- Families traveling a long distance often arrive on Cape Cod on Thursday.
- Fall Family Weekend will take place October 21-22, 2011
- Friday: activities all day. Dinner on your own. Students generally stay off-campus with their families.
- Saturday: Faculty/Parent conferences and a Post-Secondary Fair in Entin Gym - A Health and Wellness Fair will be held in Hunters Commons in the James Center from 1:30-3:30 and a Family Fun Run/Walk will take place on Hammond Road that afternoon
- Saturday evening: Halloween costume dance in Hyannis - siblings are invited. Children generally stay off-campus with their families.
- No other activities are planned for Sunday.
Transition Weekend February 10 & 11
– Seminars/Workshops for parents onlyTransition Weekend, held at a NEW off-campus site, is a working weekend for parents of GROW, seniors and juniors. It features seminars and discussion groups designed to enable parents to address issues their children may face in the 10 years following graduation.
- GROW, Senior and Junior families only – students are only allowed to stay at the site in the evening (and over-night) when families can chaperone.
- Families arrive Friday afternoon by 2 p.m. (students remain at Riverview).
- Friday afternoon: conference and reception.
- Friday evening: (students arrive at the site at 6:00 p.m.). Dinner is on your own. Students generally stay overnight with their families.
- Saturday morning – transportation is provided to return students to campus.
- Saturday is a long day filled with seminars, lectures and discussion groups.
- Students are returned to the site at 6 p.m. Families are invited to visit one of the GROW residences for dinner, and then all return to the hotel for dancing.
- No scheduled activities on Sunday.

Commencement Weekend June 15 - 17
Commencement Weekend includes a Gala Benefit to support the School’s programs, the Prom and the graduation ceremony. In between these major events, parents help their children pack, share memories with other parents and bid farewell to classmates and friends.
- Families should arrive the night before their scheduled conference. (parent/teacher conference schedules will be mailed out in May).
- Thursday and Friday afternoons and Saturday morning: parent conferences, student presentations of art and/or music.
- Friday evening – Village of Dreams Gala (dinner and auction); students and young siblings have their own off-campus activities.
- Saturday evening – Three events at one time in different locations: Prom in the tent on campus; GROW dinner dance; family dinner and dance in the Entin Gymnasium
- Sunday morning is dedicated to the Secondary School and GROW Commencement followed by brunch for new graduates and their families. All festivities are over by 2:00 p.m.
